EcoDiesel EGR Delete Kit

An EcoDiesel EGR delete kit is generally marketed as an aftermarket package for the 3.0L EcoDiesel that removes, blocks, or disables the factory exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. Some kits are also promoted alongside ECU tuning and other emissions-system modifications.

For a road-going vehicle, however, removing or disabling the EGR system can violate emissions regulations. The U.S. EPA specifically identifies EGR systems as emissions-control components protected under the Clean Air Act, and states that tampering with or selling components intended to defeat those controls is prohibited.

EcoDiesel Performance Alternatives

If the goal is better performance from a Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, consider upgrades that keep the factory emissions equipment functional, such as:

  • High-flow, emissions-compliant air intake
  • Improved intercooler and charge-air piping
  • High-quality fuel filtration
  • Cooling-system upgrades
  • Emissions-compliant exhaust components
  • EGR and intake-system cleaning
  • Compliant ECU calibration
  • Preventive maintenance and sensor replacement

These modifications can improve airflow, cooling, drivability, and reliability without disabling required emissions equipment.

Check Your EcoDiesel Generation

Fitment is particularly important with the 3.0L EcoDiesel, because Ram used different engine generations and emissions configurations across model years. An EGR component designed for one generation should not automatically be assumed to fit another.

The EPA has also taken enforcement action against companies selling EGR delete products for diesel pickup trucks. In one settlement, EPA identified products specifically designed to disable or bypass EGR systems and other critical emissions controls.
